NY Times Article: Phones Try to Stand Out in a Crowd
Source
By JENNA WORTHAM
Published: February 16, 2011
Jenna Wortham asks the question, "how do you stand out from the crowd when most phones are near-identical glassy rectangles?"
“At the end of the day, there’s only so much you can do with a piece of glass,” said Chris Jones, an analyst with the research firm Canalys. “Software can make or break a phone.”
According to Wortham, "hardware makers are being forced to find new ways to appeal to buyers who are less interested in particulars like processor speeds than in what applications the devices can run, and how easily they can access their e-mail and Facebook on it."
What do you look for when you are buying a new phone? What's important to you? Facebook or a longer charge?

What's the time?
Always Sunny in Philadelphia: At the beginning of each episode, a black screen comes up and it tells you the day and time of the episode taking place. Time is a very important part of every day life to people and it just shows order in your life. It almost gives you a picture in your head of a schedule and is a good way of introducing a scenario for you. We've been talking a lot about scenarios and putting a time to it really adds that much more to the scenario. To add to that, a lot of opening sequences adds a lot to an episode, the timing, the effectiveness of it, the aesthetic flow, etc.

The New SKINNY CAN
"Diet Pepsi has introduced a new "skinny" can for Fashion Week, but some critics are giving it a big, fat "no."
The can is a "taller, sassier" version of the traditional can that the company says was made in "celebration of beautiful, confident women." Some say Pepsi's approach only reinforces dangerous stereotypes about women and body image." -Sarah Skidmore
I found that a lot of the skinny can freezers were found in fashionable boutiques and hair salons.
Is the new skinny pepsi innovative and exciting or is it offensive and unoriginal? What are your thoughts?

Values
Are you doing what you believe in? What are your values? How far would you go to lose a sense of what you truly believe? Losing money doing what you love? Or losing money doing what you hate?
Life of a designer....business man/art
people have a sense of where they fit in that spectrum
Designers create commonalities, counterposition to social media/other related medias. Designers are about finding shared experiences, shared values.
Sharing of experiences, a way to prevent people from fighting each other. Part of designers can do
A single Experience
Artists provide a gift to culture...so we can have a common gift
Role of artists in history
a counter way to the self absorption to only satisfying short time hype and talk
you have the ability to translate ideas from one idea to the other
TOGETHER.

Superbowl Commercials Family Friendly?
I'm a Packers fan so the entirety of the Superbowl was absolute bliss, but there are a few things I would've changed about it if I COULD...
For instance, Christina Aguilera...come on, enough with the vocals, just sing the damn song. Black Eyed Peas were AWFUL, the best thing about that performance were the light up people, but they completely tore apart a perfectly good Guns N' Roses song. Now, on to the real problem I had with the Superbowl. What was going on with the commercials?! I thought the Superbowl was supposed to be family friendly. I'm almost 21 years old and I felt uncomfortable watching the Superbowl with my family. I understand that sex sells, but has it gone TOO far? Check out the videos below and see what you think!
